Thanks to Sunwarrior for sponsoring this post. All opinions are, as always, my own.
Let me tell you a little secret. I am always hungry. I guess it’s a combination of the running, an active lifestyle, and a pretty good metabolism, but I can almost always eat. It’s been a bit of a joke at work for years. There’s Debbie, eating again.
A funny thing happens when you get a little older, run a little less, are generally not quite as active. The hunger remains. The calorie burn does not.
That’s a long way of saying that I have to be a bit more careful about my intake these days. Instead of eating five or six times a day (yes, I did that!), now I use a light snack between meals to keep my engine fueled. Still, I frequently feel hungry, shaky, and sometimes lightheaded if I don’t plan my meals just right.
Help from Sunwarrior Illumin8
I’ve been anticipating the release of Sunwarrior’s new meal replacement Illumin8 for a while now. I’m a huge fan of the Sunwarrior Classic Blend and I trust this company to make healthy, plant-based nutrition, so when I heard about Illumin8, I was sure it would fit into my own meal plan.
Illumin8 is chock full of clean, wholesome ingredients like baobab, chia, flax, whole grain brown rice, kelp, holy basil, guava, and coconut, to name just a few.
To ensure that you get everything you need in a meal, Illumin8 has what Sunwarrior calls The Core Eight: Clean organic protein, gluten-free carbs, healthy fats, minerals, fiber, natural vitamins, and probiotics.
All this in a single serving, which has only 160 calories so it makes a great light meal or snack. I used almond milk to mix with my Illumin8 and was pleased with the slightly spicy vanilla flavor (Illumin8 also comes in Mocha and Aztec Chocolate).
I know that if I want to replace a full meal, like breakfast on those mornings I have to be at work by 5:30, I can blend with some fruit, greens, or vegetables, for a delicious and filling treat. Either way, I’m covering all my nutrition bases.

I love the fact there’s only five grams of sugar.
The child LOVES when I make protein powder popsicles in the summer for her.
I wonder if this and fruit would blend and freeze well?
Debbie Woodruff
I don’t know! Next time I make a fruity smoothie I’ll make extra and freeze it. That actually sounds like a really good treat!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama
Sun warrior has always been one of my fav protein powders. I don’t use them as often anymore but I kind of want to try their new one.
Debbie Woodruff
I really like everything about Illumin8. I rarely just have plain protein powder and almond milk, but it tastes really good! Next up is to try it in my smoothie.
Debbie Rodrigues
I really like Sunwarrior. I wish it were easier to find their products here.
That sounds like an excellent alternative.
I’ve been taking a meal replacer in the evening because of my digestion and I’m happy with the change.
Thanks for sharing about this product, Debbie. I didn’t know about it before.
Debbie Woodruff
Thanks Debbie. I hope all is well with you. I know it must be difficult to get a lot of the products we have such easy access to in the US. I love the Illumin8 because it’s so easy, has very little sugar, and it tastes really good.
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner
I am always hungry too! Love the low sugar content here and the clean ingredients. Looks like a great option for meal replacements.
Debbie Woodruff
Yes, the low sugar content is great! And it tastes good too!
Hollie
This is really interesting and thanks for sharing your review. I’ve heard Sunwarrior is an awesome protein brand and I’ve honestly wanted to try them for quite some time. The minimum amount of sugar is what sold me I think.
Debbie Woodruff
I am a Sunwarrior fan (you should see my counter! Loaded with SW products). The low sugar in Illumin8 is a great bonus.
Kathleen
That sounds like an awesome product, I have not heard of it before, I must look for it. I love the organic and no GMO. Thanks for alerting us to this product.
