As I continue my planning ahead for Medicare, I’m honing in on what exactly I’m looking for in a Medicare plan. In a nutshell, I want a plan that will help me with active aging. Thanks to Anthem Blue Cross for sponsoring this post.
I find it hard to believe, but I’m just a few years away from being eligible for Medicare. When Alan started a few years back, we were a bit clueless about what Medicare would cover, what private Medicare plans actually covered, and how much out-of-pocket expenses we were looking at.
I learned a lot through his experience, primarily that I really need to plan ahead, know exactly what I need, and be ready for when that day finally comes.
As I continue to plan for when I become eligible for Medicare, I'm looking for a plan that will support my own desire for active aging. @AnthemBlueCross has plans that focus on whole-body wellness! #AgeWell #AD Learn more: Click To TweetPlanning Ahead for Medicare: Active Aging
At 61 (almost 62), I’m an active person. I mostly run but I also strength train, practice yoga, and I may be close to getting back on my bicycle. I’ve also dabbled at golf, tennis, and swimming. I plan to continue with all of that as I get older and enroll in Medicare.
That’s why my number one priority as I select a Medicare plan is that I will be supported in my active lifestyle. I want a plan that will help me focus on the prevention of health-related problems.
Fortunately, Anthem Blue Cross has plans that will give me the option for wellness services that will address whole-person health. This can help allow me to continue my active lifestyle.
Anthem Blue Cross also has plans that include many preventive screening tests that are 100% covered, including annual physicals, mammograms, bone density tests, colonoscopies, and many others that are so important for me to stay healthy and active.
And, while I’m certainly healthy and active, I have been running for almost 30 years and so I’m pleased to see that some plans cover Chiropractic care. And if there comes a time when I’m ready to hang up my running shoes for something with a little less impact, I know I can still stay active by joining the included SilverSneakers program. Different locations offer different classes, but in my area, I can attend general fitness or yoga classes and have access to the local aquatic center.
Many of the Anthem Blue Cross plans include Medicare Part D, which is prescription drug coverage. I’m healthy and active but I’m really happy that generic drugs are available with little or no deductible. That’s one less worry!
Of course, Anthem Blue Cross has plans for me if I need more health care options, including healthy food delivery, pain management programs, adult day centers, and home helpers for daily activities. I’m hoping those are a long way off, but it’s nice to know they’re available if and when I need them.
Medicare eligibility still feels like a long way away but we all know how quickly time passes, so I’m happy to learn now that Anthem Blue Cross has plans that will help me with my active aging well into the future.

You’re smart to plan ahead! I’m not far behind you. While I look forward to retirement, navigating Medicare and health insurance is a little overwhelming!

It can be very overwhelming as we discovered when my husband went through it. That’s why I want to be prepared!

I wish more health care was focused on preventative and general wellness! Good for you, looking forward to your possible future needs . . . often I like to just cover my ears and go “lalalala” haha

Sadly, that la la la thing doesn’t work forever. 🙂 As we discovered when my husband hit 65 and we were totally unprepared. Not gonna happen this time.

This is a subject that we have not thought much about yet. Thanks for the reminder and all the good info

Time flies! Though I’m sure just a few years to plan ahead is enough and you’ve got way more than that!

Fortunately, my hubby has been in the financial planning industry since his college days (he started out as a college intern). He understands all the “verbiage” so I don’t have to LOL He’s also been very proactive in saving for both his (and mine) retirement. Glad you have some peace of mind as you approach your retirement years 😉

I’m right there with you in being at an age where I need to start thinking about medicare and I’m not really looking forward to it. Picking the right insurance can be so confusing and having it tied in with the government just makes me worry that its going to be ten times more difficult to maneuver through. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised and it’s not so bad!
