Friday Favorites: TGIF Fun from Skirt Sports, Popsugar and more!

Hurray! It’s Friday! TGIF and welcome to Friday Favorites! It’s been a busy week and I have a lot of favorites to share with you.

Remember last week when I linked up with Wendy for the Runner’s Treasure Hunt? Well, that experience really helped me open my eyes (and get them off my feet!) and look around. I thought it would be fun to see if I could find one interesting or unusual thing to share each week. This week it was easy:

I’ve been keeping my eye out for unusual things on the run since linking up with @wendyistakingthelongwayhome for the Running Treasure Hunt last week. I think this crane qualifies. As far as I know they are not common here and the only place I have ever seen one is right here at #silverrockresort in #laquinta.

Pretty cool, huh? Apparently what my husband told me I thought was a crane is really a Blue Heron, but whatever it is, it was big and beautiful. Here’s a still shot:

Food for Thought

Is Old Talk the New Fat Talk? I loved this post from Carla. Yes, we’re careful not to call ourselves fat in front of our daughters. But what about calling ourselves old, even when we do it in jest?

New Styles from Skirt Sports

I mentioned the new Skirt Sports fall line a couple weeks ago, but now I have my own to show off! I just love the new prints. Of course, my skirts arrived on Tuesday when I was scheduled for a rest day on Wednesday. I was a little sad, but a wise fellow Skirt Sports Ambassador suggested that I wear one anyway. Why not? They are cute and comfortable.

So, I did. I wore my skirt to teach a Lifestretch class, ran some errands, then ended up just keeping it on for the rest of the day. Brilliant! The new prints are being added to different styles, and with my love of the Jette skirt I already have my eye on my next purchase.

Speaking of Irvine (and my upcoming 10k):

I really didn’t want to do my tempo run this morning. As we walked the dogs I tried to figure out an alternative. I even contemplated a hill workout instead, substituting short term pain for longer term discomfort. 🙄 Instead, I stuck to the plan, compromising by running my 2 mile tempo downhill (after a one mile uphill warmup…ugh). After all, training is about more than just getting faster. It’s about learning what you can do when you put your body and your mind to the test. It’s about overcoming the little voice that says, “I can’t,” or “I don’t want to,” and challenging yourself to be the best.
