During the last six months (meaning during the pandemic) I have not planted a garden, made sourdough bread, or even thoroughly cleaned my house. What I have done though earned certifications in Stretching and Flexibility, TRX Instruction, and Mobility Specialist. And now, in new fitness news, I have two more educational programs coming up!
Fitness News #1: The IDEA World Virtual Fitness Convention
I’m going to the IDEA World Virtual Fitness Convention! I try to go to IDEA World every year. It’s such a great opportunity for education and networking, plus I always can earn enough CECs to renew my personal training and group exercise instructor certification. I was sad when it was canceled. earlier this year.
Fortunately, IDEA World is going virtual! A scaled-down version, with two days of online education, starts on Friday, August 21! I can’t wait to virtually hang with my fitness friends and still have the opportunity to earn my CECs, keep up-to-date on fitness trends, and (a nice bonus) save money on travel and accommodations. There is even a virtual Expo so you know there will be some shopping going on!
I’m also excited to be a part of SHINE again! I’ll get to meet up with all my fitness blogging friends too (virtually, of course)! I’m sad that I won’t be able to give them all a big hug but it will fun to reconnect and get some fresh inspiration and information.
Super excited to be attending the 2020 #IDEAWORLD Virtual Fitness Convention on August 21 & 22! I can't wait to learn, network, and earn some CECs! @ideafit #fitness Save $20 with the code SHINE20!Click To TweetHere’s the lowdown on the 2020 IDEA World Virtual Fitness Convention:

Fitness News #2: Therabody University
In my second piece of fitness news, I signed up to go to Therabody University! Over the last few months, Theragun has become Therabody as they have moved beyond offering just massage guns and started providing full-body care with other vibration technology, CBD products, and, of course, updated massage guns.
Because I use my Theragun in both my personal training and stretch therapy practices, I’m really happy for the opportunity to learn even more about techniques, stay up-to-date on the science, and add another tool to my fitness toolbox. The class is virtual, of course, but as I’ve learned with the other courses that I’ve taken over the last few months, virtual is a great way to learn.
As a Theragun affiliate, I always have a discount link you can use to save 10% on your purchase of any Theragun or TheraOne CBD product. Just drop a comment and I’ll get it to you. Here’s my review of my new favorite massage gun, the Theragun Mini.
The Weekly Run-Down
Here's my Weekly Run Down plus some fun fitness news. I'm heading to (virtual) #IDEAWORLD and @Therabody University! #fitness #running #fitnesseducationClick To TweetWe were hit with an incredible heatwave this week and my mileage reflects that. Last week I managed an 11-mile run because the 70s are amazing. This week, we’re talking about the 90s, increased humidity, and just general miserableness.
Monday
I have one strength training client that I train via Zoom and I have started doing the workout along with her. It helps her because she can see me doing the movement since I’m not alongside her to make corrections. I do, of course, give verbal instruction but she likes seeing me, and hey, I’m getting a workout!
Tuesday
This was the day it started heating up but we were able to take the dogs for a run on the trails. I ran about four with Alan, Buddy, and Australia and added another half mile with Tito. Even Ana got in on the fun with a short walk/ run before it got too hot.
Wednesday
I had to go into work fairly early on Wednesday. We’re starting virtual fitness classes next week and my boss wanted to run me through the setup. I didn’t want to miss my run, so I got out early and ran 3.1 miles, making it into a bit of a speed workout. I counted our dog walk as a warmup, so I could hit the ground running. at a moderately hard pace. It was fun.
When I got into work, I first watched our Zumba instructor, Stacy, set up for her class. It’s not that difficult as long as the technology comes through! Stacy invited me to join her for her class. At first, I declined, because I’ve only done Zumba a couple of times and while I’m not a total klutz, I need time to not feel like a total klutz. Then I decided what the heck. It was a lot of fun and I worked up a good sweat, which is really the point of Zumba.
Finally, I worked out with my client again, so I felt like it was Triple Workout Wednesday!
Thursday
Well, I ran four miles altogether, but since I was doing some photos for an upcoming blog post, there was a lot of stopping and starting going on. I ran from my house to a local park, where I did a variety of photo shots. It was pretty cloudy, which is unusual around here and I wasn’t really happy with the photos because they were too dark and kind of blurry. Ah well. Oh, and then I ran home.
Friday
Running rest day but I did go back to the park to take some better photos. I drove there, wandered around and got a few photos. I had one blonde moment when I was getting ready to drive home and noticed I didn’t have my car key, which I’d slipped into my phone armband. I had a few unhappy thoughts of having to walk two miles home to get my extra key (Alan was swimming), then walking back to the park. Since it was already 93 degrees, this did not make me excited. Fortunately, I was able to retrace my steps and find my key fairly quickly. Whew!
I’m not a Pilates instructor but in normal times my client like to work out on the reformer (I’ve taken a level one reformer instructor class). She’s been missing it so I’ve created a mat-based workout that is very core-based. She’s loving it and I’m kind of loving it too!
Saturday
Saturday is my long run day but I knew going into it I was not going to run 10 miles. Why? Well, 97 degrees at 5:00 am is why. I’m tough but not stupid. I headed out, planning to loop around my house so that I could 1) Have easy access to cold water/Nuun and 2) Quit. Somehow I managed six miles in the first loop by keeping it in the shade and taking it easy. Just as I was heading to my house, thinking six miles was perfect, the sun went behind the clouds and I thought, well, I could probably run two more miles. So I did! Yes, it was really hot and I was really slow, but I was was able to finish with 8 miles!
Sunday
This is usually the day that Alan and I take the dogs out for a run but we both knew that 95 degrees was just too hot, especially since the humidity had jumped overnight. Instead, we took them for a two-mile walk and that was fine.
Totals: Running – 19.6 miles Walking – 2.2 miles Three Strength workouts One Zumba class

I think it’s fantastic that you have used this time to further your education. I am interested in hearing about what you learn from Theragun. I just got another branded one that I love. See you at camp next week!
Debbie Woodruff
I have a few different massage guns! I’m really interested to see what I can learn for my clients and myself.

So glad you had fun at Zumba!!
Well done on all those qualifications you earned in the last 6 months. And hope you enjoy the two coming up!
Wendy
I’ve always felt the FOMO of all you fitness bloggers going to IDEA World–but since i don’t teach classes, I never felt like it was justified. I’ll be curious to hear how it goes this year! PS I spy Briana behind you in that Zumba photo from 2015!
Jessie
Lovely sunrise photo! Makes getting up early worth it, right?
Glad the convention is virtual so you can still earn the credits!
Zenaida Arroyo
Glad you found your car keys. The thought of walking home to get the spare key on a hot day, well, doesn’t sound fun at all.
I have a different massage gun and love it too.
Michelle D.
Great job with your new certifications! And congrats on getting to Sacramento!
I’m curious to hear what you think of IDEA as a virtual event.
Coco
Well, you certainly have been productive! I’ve not organized a closet or baked sourdough bread, but I have done my share of jigsaw puzzles. I’m speaking on two virtual conference panels in September. One will be prerecorded and one will be live. I’m a bit nervous about the recorded once, since any mistakes will be repeated. LOL
Kimberly Hatting
You certainly have not been sitting idle during the pandemic LOL I enjoy baking, but since my work schedule pretty much remained the same as pre-pandemic, I wasn’t awarded any extra free time to bake bread either. (And I’m okay with that). Have fun this weekend!!
