I’ve been trying hard to up my fruit intake (beyond my banana a day!) and one of the easiest ways I have found is to have a daily smoothie or smoothie bowl. I actually prefer the smoothie bowl since it seems to have more substance and keeps me fuller longer.

Super Food Power Smoothie Bowl
I like to add a variety of fruit, based mainly on what I have on hand, but this Power Smoothie Bowl is loaded with berries, has vegan Greek Yogurt, almonds, chia seeds, and Nuzest Chocolate Clean Lean Protein and Quick Vita Kick for an extra boost of antioxidants, probiotics, and amino acids.
One of the best things about making a smoothie bowl (or smoothie) is that you can get creative with what you have on hand. If you have favorite fruits or flavors that you love, feel free to add them in (or use as a topping). One of my favorite add-ins is peanut butter, especially if I have chocolate as a base flavor. So decadent!
I used the chocolate Nuzest Clean Lean Protein for this smoothie bowl, but feel free to use another flavor if you prefer. One scoop equals about a quarter of a cup. I like to use a mix of fresh and frozen fruit since it helps thicken the mixture without diluting it. I save the fresh fruit for the toppings.
- 1 large frozen banana
- ½ cup frozen Strawberries
- 6 oz vegan Greek yogurt
- ½ cup almond milk (or your favorite non-dairy milk)
- ¼ cup blueberries
- 1 scoop Chocolate Clean Lean Protein
- 1 package (or scoop) Cacao Banana Quick Vita Kick
- Sliced fresh strawberries
- Blueberries
- Sliced almonds
- Chia seeds
- Hemp seeds (omit for gluten-free)
- Or any of your favorite toppings
- Place the ingredients in the blender. Blend until smooth. The mixture will be thick. Pour into a bowl and add several sliced strawberries, blueberries, and almonds. Sprinkle with chia and hemp seeds.
I used hemp seeds as a topping for this smoothie bowl, which don’t actually contain gluten. However, cross-contamination can occur, so if you are extremely sensitive or have celiac disease, either make sure that the brand you are using is gluten-free or omit the hemp seeds.
Sneak Peak at the Nuzest Clean Lean Protein BAR!
On March first, Nuzest will introduce their first protein bar! I was lucky enough to get a few bars to try out in advance so that I could share my opinion with you.
The Nuzest Clean Lean Protein Bar comes in two flavors: Cacao Coconut and Vanilla Almond. I was only sent a sample of the Cacao Coconut, and even though I’m not a big coconut fan I really enjoyed these bars. Each one has 14 grams of plant-based protein, derived from European Golden Peas. They are vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO and suitable for plant-based, paleo, and allergy-free diets. They contain no soy, additives, artificial sweeteners or colors.
Look for the Clean Lean Protein Bars on the Nuzest website!
Here’s a little story about Olivia, who wanted to pose with me for this post. Alan and I rescued her from the streets in 2009. We were on a bike ride and happened to take a different route from our usual because I wanted to show him some new calves on another road. She was on the side of the road, scared to death, no collar (of course), but somehow she knew that Alan was her savior. She came to him without hesitation.
Just a few weeks ago, Olivia went blind. Just like that. One day she could see, the next she could not. It looks like glaucoma, which I had no idea could come on so quickly, but the vet said it is possible. As an older, timid dog, this has been very difficult for her. The first day she was frozen in place, afraid to move. Over the last weeks, she has started to adapt. She can usually find the water (though I frequently splash to make a sound to attract her). While she hasn’t figured out how to get out the doggy door, she is very good at “holding it” until we take her out, then she finds her way back in. Every day she makes a new advance.
I have had blind dogs before. Johnny, who we rescued a few years ago is blind. He was young and it was gradual, so you could watch him move around the house and not even realize he can’t see. It has been harder for Olivia, but I’m so happy to see that she is adapting. Dogs are pretty amazing.

I have not had a smoothie bowl in a while. All those fresh fruits are making me crave one! Looks beautiful. Thanks for joining us for meatless Monday

I go for long periods of time without a smoothie bowl, and I’m not sure why. They’re almost as easy as a smoothie.
Patrick@looneyforfood.com
I am not a smoothie bowl enthusiast like most of the blog world, but this looks beautiful!

I made my first smoothie bowl about a year ago and then I wondered why I waited so long. It always seems like it will be much more difficult than it actually is. And they’re much more satisfying than a plain old smoothie. 🙂
Wendy
Just finished my strawberry-mango-pineapple-banana smoothie with a scoop of Nuzest vanilla protein powder! Nuzest is my favorite.

Ooh, tropical flavors on a cold day! I do love my Nuzest! It tastes good and blends so well!
Barrie
Looks great- a switch up from my plain old smoothies!
Debbie Woodruff
It is a change of pace. I always feel more satisfied with the bowl, I think because of the chewing involved. 🙂

That power smoothie bowl looks so good! I really need to start making those at home.
Awwe I’m so sorry to hear about Olivia but I am glad that she seems to be adapting better now.
Debbie Woodruff
Thank you. I know it’s a matter of time and learning to use her other senses. And I know it’s just my own feelings that make me feel bad (as I watch her bumping off walls, other dogs, etc.). She just goes about her life. She’s less scared now and that makes me feel much better.

Oooo I really want to try those bars!

They’re really good. And the Vanilla Almond arrived today and they’re REALLY good!

I love smoothie bowls, especially in the spring and summer. And I’ll have to try that protein bar. I’m always on the lookout for bars that aren’t filled with crap.
Debbie Woodruff
I do love that these bars have just good, whole food and no refined sugar. And the Vanilla Almond arrived today and I LOVE it!

I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never made or tried a smoothie bowl but I think you’ve convinced me. Looks great!
Marcia
That is one good looking smoothie bowl. That said, I love that Nuzest makes a bar. Because portability is key sometimes. Aw Olivia is a sweetie. Carlo, my almost 18 yr old Bichon, is mostly blind and mostly deaf but gets around his surroundings just fine. I’m sure Olivia will adapt.
