TGIF and Happy Friday Favorites! Fridays are always great, but I’m super excited because I just have one more week until I head off to Arizona for my Fascial Stretch Therapy level two course! I’m sharing an AirBnB with a couple of classmates, so I’m looking forward to that too. It will be nice to have an apartment instead of a tiny hotel room.
I’m excited about a few other things too!
Toasty Skirt Sports
While it’s a little too warm yet here in the California desert to get too excited about cozy running clothes, I still just love the look of the new Skirt Sports Toasty Collection. Don’t forget you can save 20% on your purchase with the code CDR20!
I’m a Skirt Sports Ambassador and I receive clothing and discounts as compensation. If you ever see me running you know how much I love them.
Rock ‘n’ Roll LA Course
While I’ve been focusing my training for the most part on the upcoming Tram Road Race, I am still planning to run Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon, which is the following week. My mindset is that since it’s the day before Halloween, I will probably be running in costume and focusing on the fun rather than the time. So, I’ll increase my mileage, particularly my long run, get all that hill work done, and have a good time in LA.
Anyway, the release of the Rock ‘n’ Roll LA course has been a long time coming and they finally just released it! It will start and finish at LA Live and pass by many Los Angeles landmarks.
The price goes up tomorrow (Saturday, October 1), so if you want to run and save money you should sign up today! Plus you can save an extra $15 with the code COACHDEBBIERUNS. Win/Win!!!
As a Rock ‘n’ Blogger I received a Tour Pass to participate in Rock ‘n’ Roll races.
I had a Massage!
If you know me, you know how much I love body work including fascial stretch therapy and massage. Last week I was the queen of them all, getting stretched twice (in preparation for my class), then finally getting a massage.
Learn the Benefits of Massage for Runners
I tried a new place, Maui Massage because I got a good deal. It is essentially a membership massage place, but I wasn’t pressured to join. If you are one who looks for ambiance, this may not be the place for you, but if you just want a great massage, ask for Vanessa. She was awesome.
Good Karma
Do you believe in Karma? I do. I think you get back what you give, in one way or another, and, basically, on the other side, what goes around comes around. I hope so, anyway, because Alan and I had one of those couple good deed moments today, just small things really, but they both happened almost in unison.
We stopped by Aldi’s today to pick up just a few things. When we got in line, I realized we’d forgotten to bring in a bag, so Alan went out to the car to grab one. I noticed the lady in front of me was purchasing a lot of gourmet-type food, like smoked salmon, various cheeses, crackers, etc. Her total came to about $80, which is a lot for Aldi’s. She even commented on the cost, which reminded me that I had a $10 coupon in my purse, which required a $40 purchase and expired today. I gave it to her, bringing her total down to $70. Small thing, right? It made her happy though.
Meanwhile, out in the parking lot, Alan saw that a police officer was dealing with an older man who seemed a little ill. The officer was telling him that she couldn’t let him drive. He was weak and seemed disoriented. Alan offered to drive him home. So just as I was handing over the coupon, Alan came in and told me that we were driving the gentleman home. Double good karma.
As it turned out, the man seemed to be getting worse, so they decided to call for medical assistance. I hope that he’s doing okay.
Posts from the week
On Monday I shared this vegan Butternut Squash soup with sweet potatoes and red peppers. I also am giving away a bottle of CalPure Extra Virgin Avocado Oil! Easy entry, all you need to do is leave a quick comment on the post. The soup is pretty amazing, it’s rich and creamy, and I used white beans to add extra protein.
Wednesday is the Running Coaches’ Corner (the linkup is still open, by the way, so stop by and link up your running posts). This week we’re talking about running myths that just won’t die. Like the one that all runners hear over and over, it’s bad for your knees.
Finally…This Picture
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed this post yesterday. I had finished my hill work for the day and I’d taken a couple videos and pulled a couple frames for the post.
So that’s not the picture I was talking about. Nope, it’s this one. Kind of embarrassing. Or awesome. You be the judge.
Embarrassing or awesome? Have you had a good massage lately? What’s your opinion about karma?

You soup looks so delish!!! What a great week!
I’d love for you to come share your favorite post of the month in my Best of Blogs linkup today!
Debbie Woodruff
Thank you! Our timing is great. Right about the time you were writing this comment I was visiting your site and deciding which post to share!
Patricia @Sweet and Strong
I keep telling myself I need a massage so badly. I feel a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders and always feel refreshed after. I have never made butternut squash soup, but think I’m going to try it this Fall!
Debbie Woodruff
I wish I could afford a massage once a week. I know I’d be a happier person. Healthier too!
Anna @ Piper's Run
Love the photo. At first I didn’t notice anything was wrong with it and then I looked again. Funny!
Debbie Woodruff
It took me a couple looks too.
Wendy@TakingtheLongWayHome
Haha! Love that sunshine…it always plays tricks on me!
Debbie Woodruff
It was too good not to share ๐
Kimberly Hatting
Love the sunshine pic! It looks like you have your own “private” flashlight ๐ (And, yes, I do believe in karma…she can smile at you or she can spit in your face, but I believe she’s out there )
Debbie Woodruff
I love that! My own special flashlight :-). Speaking of karma, today my husband had someone pay him back money that was owed (that he basically figured he would never see) and I got a new client! Karma? Maybe. ๐
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner
I tried on the whole toasty collection and just love it! Can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Debbie Woodruff
It looks so awesome. Not sure if it gets cold enough here though.
Carmy
I thinkkkkkk I like hills but only inside trails!
Debbie Woodruff
I actually hate hills but I love what they do for my running!
Angela @marathonsandmotivation.com
Haha, Love it!! And a massage sounds fabulous…I think we all need to treat ourselves to this much more often ๐
Debbie Woodruff
I agree!
Toni
I definitely think you get what you give! Being nice is so easy, more people should try it! I love your photo, I think it’s awesome!
Debbie Woodruff
I agree. It’s easy to be nice (I wonder why so people seem to be so mean these days?)
Nicole @ Fitful Focus
That new Toasty line looks awesome! I also need a massage and totally believe in Karma. I hope that guy is ok!
Debbie Woodruff
I’ve been worried about the old man too. I hope he’s okay. He was definitely going downhill within a few minutes when we were waiting.
Jenn
Oh my goodness, that picture! But the sun flare is really pretty!
I am on Team No Massage. I had one in my life and I just couldn’t handle it. I know I would probably benefit, but I just don’t enjoy them. I do totally believe in good karma, though. You did two great things that day.
Debbie Woodruff
I got a few good pictures from the video with the sun flare but this one just cracks me up. As a massage lover I might say that you just had a great experience and should try it again, but I get it that not everybody likes them. My husband is also on Team No-Massage.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running
So glad to hear that they finally released the LA course map. I know that it was much anticipated and there was a lot of concern that the race would be canceled. I hope you having fun running it!
