I was a member of Dr. K’s first class at the 2017 IDEA Convention, and he helped me with my shoulder injury when I spoke to him at the Malibu Half Marathon last November. I have received an Intelliroll Flexy to try out. I’m sharing this interview because I believe in foam rolling for runners. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
Foam Rolling for Runners
Most runners realize that body care should be an important part of their strategy for improving performance and preventing injury. Whether it is massage, fascial stretch therapy, stretching, or foam rolling, body care should be included in every runner’s training plan. Does that mean they are consistently doing these things? Well, you tell me. Probably not as much as you should. That’s why we’re going to talk a little bit about Foam Rolling for Runners with the creator of the Intelliroll, Dr. K.
Body care is really important to improve #running performance and avoid injury. Today on the Running Coaches' Corner I'm interviewing Dr. K, creator of the @intelli_Roll about foam rolling for runners!Click To TweetDr. K and the Intelliroll
First, let me tell you a little about Dr. K Maybe you wonder why I always call him Dr. K. Basically, because it’s easier to say (and write) than Doctor Sevak Khodabakhshian, DC, QME!
Dr. K has always been interested in fitness and healthy living. He comes from a background of surfing, so over the years, he has sustained a number of injuries, so he understands what it is to deal with pain. As a chiropractor, and before that, a personal trainer, he specializes in sports rehab. He works with athletes and non-athletes, and over his career has seen every type of injury available.
Dr. K believes that having the right tools and the right plan are necessary for success, which is why he designed the Intelliroll with anatomical precision. When used with Dr. K’s pain release and recovery system, Pressure Release Flow, Intelliroll is your body fix for life. Your free membership in the Body Fix University will help guide you through the Pressure Release Flow system.
An Interview with Dr. K about Foam Rolling for Runners
I apologize for the sound quality. I did this interview off the cuff in the middle of the IDEA World Fitness Expo, so there is a bit of ambient noise.
I’d like to extend a big thank you to Dr. K. for taking the time to educate this runner about what she needs to do to perform and feel better. And thanks to Tyaga K. for filming. Great job!
The Intelliroll comes in three different levels of firmness: Firm (black), for a deep tissue-like rolling experience; Flex (blue), which is made of softer foam and has a more flexible core; and Flexy (pink), which is slightly less dense and smaller than the Flex.
Do you take your body care seriously?

I used to foam roll all the time and really do think it helps. Lately I have fallen off the wagon with lots of my prehab exercises. Thanks for the reminder. It looks like Blogfest was great!
Debbie Woodruff
Blogfest was amazing. I hope you can make it someday.
The thing with foam rolling is that you don’t have to do the whole body every day, If you focus on a couple key areas, either the running specific ones, or the areas that are giving you problems, you can roll a few minutes a day (and probably take one day a week to really get everything).
Annmarie
When I take the time to foam roll, it really does help! I’ve been wanting to have an in-service for my clients at my studio about how to properly foam roll – someone like Dr. K, I’ll have to share this interview!
Debbie Woodruff
I want to teach a class about foam rolling because it is so helpful. One of the sessions I took at IDEA was all about rolling for movement prep (generally in a group situation). It was great.
Laurie
Foam rolling falls in the category of something I SHOULD do but often don’t. I know that it prevents injuries, but unless I think about it, I don’t often do it. I haven’t made it part of my routine. Thanks for the reminder!
Debbie Woodruff
It’s like any new thing, we need to work to make it a habit. I need to do better too (and I hope by writing this I will!).
Wendy
I love foam rolling but I sure haven’t been doing it like I should! I prefer the “deep tissue” rollers because that really gets into the spots I can’t stretch.
Debbie Woodruff
I like to hit those spots too. The shape of the Intelliroll really helps get into areas that a regular roller can’t.
Angela
Great interview and great info on foam rolling!
Debbie Woodruff
Thank you! Dr. K makes a great interview!
Kimberly Hatting
I need to try that hamstring maneuver! That’s my voodoo spot LOL
Debbie Woodruff
My hamstrings were definitely happier afterward!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
I’m pretty good about foam rolling — because I can tell the difference in my body when I do it.
Now of course I want this roller, too!
Debbie Woodruff
I love this roller (I have two, the blue and the pink).
Marc Pelerin
Love using a foam roller. I’m big into using it before a run as well as after. In fact (pause)… Let me jump on mine right now!
Debbie Woodruff
I agree. One of the sessions I had at the IDEA Convention was on movement prep. Now I really need to take my own advice…
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets
Foam rolling is SO important! I always feel worse when I slack off on it, and yet it’s so tough for me to stick with it! Great tips as always!
Debbie Woodruff
Isn’t it weird that we runners are so good at doing the hard stuff (running, strength training), but do so poorly at the easier, but equally as important things like foam rolling and stretching? Hmmm…
Debbie @ Deb Runs
Great info, Debbie! I’ve gotten really good about foam rolling in the last two years, mainly because as I’ve gotten older, I realize that I need to do everything I can to keep my body happy.
I bet you had so much fun at Blogfest!
Debbie @ Deb Runs
P.S. I’ve been ignoring my tibialis posterior so this was a great refresher!
Debbie Woodruff
I had soooo much fun at Blogfest! You should come someday! Great blogging info, then free access to the last two days of the IDEA convention (free CEUs!).
Foam rolling really is more and more important as we get older. Glad you’re getting on that posterior tib now!
Katrina
I really need to up my rolling game
Debbie Woodruff
It’s so worth it!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude
Oh I really needed to see this interview! I have fallen off the foam rolling bandwagon and know I’ve got to get back to doing it consistently.
Debbie Woodruff
This should help motivate you!
