I’d like you to meet David. He’s a badass six-year-old from San Diego on a mission to race every single person in the world.
These photos are from Ironman 70.3 Oceanside Iron Kids race, where Ironman and the Challenged Athletes Foundation joined forces to make David’s week one that he’ll remember forever. Click any screenshot to see the full video of David’s experience at Oceanside.
Meet David. He wants to race every single person in the world! At 6 years old, this athlete may just have that chance thanks to the @CAFoundation! I hope to see him soon at @runrocknroll San Diego 5k! #RaceDavid #rnrsdClick To TweetThe Challenged Athlete Foundation is helping to make new running legs for David. His goal, he says, is to run faster than a cheetah…
…And to race every single person in the world.
David was born missing both legs and one hand but he doesn’t let that slow him down.
His big brother is so proud and happy that now David will have a chance to compete with his new running legs. Maybe even a “big huge marathon” someday.
David wants to have two jobs. Someone who makes video games and also an Ironman.
David will compete at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon 5k in San Diego on Saturday, June 2. I hope to be there to see him cross the finish line. How about you?
You can also check out this video, which features David and other athletes that have been helped by the Challenged Athletes Foundation. It shows him actually receiving his new prosthetic running legs.
This video also features Bob Babbitt, co-founder of the foundation, who it just so happens competed at the TriEvents triathlon that Alan announced last week. He stays very involved with the Challenged Athletes Foundation and is somewhat of a badass himself.

It’s a pretty amazing story! I have a patient that also was born without part of his legs. These kids really inspire, don’t they?

David is a very inspiring young man. We could all learn lessons about resilience, perseverance and the power of a positive outlook (among other things) from this little fellow. Thanks for sharing his story.

I’m just glad I had the chance to share David’s story. He is the reason the story is amazing. I’m sorry that I will miss seeing him. I’m doing the half marathon but I’m coming from out of town and won’t be there until after the 5k. Good luck to both of you!
