A few of you have asked about what body care tools I use for myself and the ones I use in my videos. I use a variety of rollers, balls and other tools in my Body First Videos. While a regular foam roller and a tennis ball are certainly adequate, some special tools can offer a better option. Here are some of my favorites (affiliate links).
My Favorite Body Care Tools

This is my favorite roller. I love that it is contoured to fit my body. The center cut-out allows me to roll my entire back and neck without compressing my vertebrae. The Intelliroll comes in three different densities: Firm (black) which is great for those who prefer deep tissue massage; Flex (blue) which provides a medium level intensity, and Flexy (pink) for a light to medium experience. Don’t miss my interview with Intelliroll creator Dr. K about why (and where) runners should roll.
MyoBuddy
The MyoBuddy Massager Pro is an amazing body care tool. It warms the muscles and can be used to target trigger points with much more precision than a foam roller. It can increase blood flow to damaged muscles which helps in recovery. Buy it here! And save $100 plus free shipping with the code DRUNS!
Trigger Point Grid
I love the Trigger Point Grid! It’s also available in a 26 inch version. I love the multi-dimensional surface that helps you get into areas that you need to with different angles and pressure. I don’t own the Trigger Point Vibe (yet), but I got to try it out at IDEA World and I loved it. It has all the advantages of the Grid with the addition of vibration. Buy it here!
Trigger Point Massage Ball
I really like the Trigger Point Massage Ball because it is small enough to get into certain tight areas, but it’s not as firm as a lacrosse ball. Buy it here!
Lacrosse Balls
Lacrosse Balls are great tools for self-myofascial release. They are firm and great for finding those trigger points. They’re pretty inexpensive too! You can double it up with this Double Lacrosse Ball. Buy it here!
Muscle Roller Stick
I love my Muscle Roller Stick! It’s so handy and easy to carry around. I toss it in my race recovery pack to get my recovery started immediately after a race. Buy it here!
High Density Foam Roller
High Density Foam Roller: Nothing wrong with the traditional foam roller. The extra length makes it great for different chest openers in addition to basic foam rolling. I like the high density because it is a little firmer and lasts longer than a simple foam roller. Buy it here!
Do you stretch and foam roll consistently? Have you tried foam rolling before your workout?

I’m a huge fan of my Trigger Point roller and my lacrosse ball. I also have Moji foot roller that I really like. I’m so sore from bootcamp yesterday that I need to do all of this!

All great torture devices! The only thing I would add would be my Roll8-I love it. Ever tried it?

I use the lacrosse ball to help roll out my hip. It really gets in there – it hurts, but I know I need to do it!
