As a plant-based, healthy living and running blogger, certain things are expected of me. For example, my readers have confidence that I am vegan, live a healthy lifestyle, and that I run. As they should.
But, because I’m human I suppose, there are some things that one might expect from a healthy living blogger that I, well, that I don’t always live up to. It’s time to fess up. So, because it’s Friday, here are my five blogger confessions.
I’m not consistent with my strength workouts.
Yes, I’m a trainer. Yes, I work in a gym to which I have free access. No, I am not as consistent with my strength training program as I should be. While I am extremely dedicated to my running, teach a twice weekly stretch class and occasional strength class, finding the time (yeah, I know!) or motivation to work out has been a challenge lately.
One of the perks of being a blogger is that we find some accountability by telling our readers our goals and plans. So, guys, it’s on! I will dedicate myself to working out twice a week.
Sometimes I eat convenience and fast food.
There was a period a couple years ago when I would travel from my full-time job straight over to another gym where I saw a couple clients. Stopping at Taco Bell for a bean burrito became a regular habit. Of course, a bean burrito is one of the healthier things you can eat at Taco Bell, but probably not the best option on a daily basis.
I also buy vegan frozen food like Gardein Chick’n Strips or Fishless Fillets on a semi-regular basis. I do serve them with a salad (or potato, see below) and I don’t feel guilty. I can use the Chick’n strips in recipes as I would real chicken, so it’s a great way to “veganize” some very delicious recipes.
The main reason I post recipes is to create a journal of my food successes.
I used to claim on a regular basis, “I’m not a food blogger,” and it’s true. I love to cook, even though I’m not trained in any way, and I’m one of those “lucky cooks.” I can throw together a meal based on what I have in the refrigerator and it will taste good. Sometimes really good.
Years ago I didn’t write down those random recipes. Of course, the next time I wouldn’t remember exactly what ingredients I used. So I started blogging about them. Now I have a great resource for quick and easy vegan recipes that I hope my readers love, but also that I can refer back to the next time I want to make, say, burritos or curry.
I eat a lot more potatoes than green vegetables.
Unless you count the green onions I sprinkle on top of my baked potatoes, or the onions and garlic I roast my red potatoes with. I’d love to say I prefer sweet potatoes since they are all the blogger rage (and yes, they are very good for you), but no, I prefer the humble russet, red, or Yukon on my dinner plate. I will add a salad for greenery.
I don’t like kale chips.
I also don’t like eggplant or green beans, and I’m not all that fond of broccoli. I’m also not a coconut fan, rarely buy cauliflower, and the only time I’ll drink coconut water is when I’m dehydrated and my body craves it. And La Croix? I can’t even pronounce it correctly let alone drink it.
Kale chips taste like salty, dry grass. There, I said it. Though I do love Michelle.
Phew! I feel better now after those blogger confessions! How about you? Whether or not you’re a blogger, do you have a confession you’d like to make?

Hah! I do the same things with my recipes. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a new one. I like kale chips, but they’re not worth the effort.
Debbie Woodruff
It’s really the only way I remember the good ones.
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness
Haha, I am no vegan but I can totally relate to these.
Our mom is one who can always make A “new” recipe” out of things she has laying around. I hope I can inherit that skill!
Debbie Woodruff
I don’t know if it is genetic. We can hope. My sons actually are pretty good at cooking too.
Cyndi
These are great! I do actually love kale chips, but the LaCroix is not good. Love that you can throw together a recipe. I would confess that I eat the same things all the time. And I love the idea of meal planning and meal prep, but it just doesn’t happen.
Debbie Woodruff
Ooh, I didn’t even think of meal prep. I fail at that too. I generally plan my dinners on the way home from work! And I think if I was single I would eat the same thing too. I certainly have the same breakfast every day!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner
I would have thought you did lots of strength training! I should do a confessions post as well fun
Debbie Woodruff
It was fun! I should have made it a linkup thing. Yeah, I don’t strength train as much as I should. Gotta change that.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy
I love veggies. Love, love, love them. Always have. So yes, I eat a lot of greens & broccoli is actually one of my favorite veggies (right up there with asparagus).
I enjoy healthy food & eat healthy — the downfall is the sweets.
I don’t like regular sweet potatoes but if you can ever get your hands on asian sweet potatoes — try them! They are delicious. Very different. I don’t shy away from regular potatoes, either.
Seriously, I’m an almost vegetarian who eats everything (meat & poultry in moderation).
Debbie Woodruff
I’ll be on the lookout for the Asian sweet potatoes.
Kimberly G
LoL, I’m totally with you on the kale chips. I have tried it a few times but I just can’t get behind it.
While i love most vegetables, I really hate celery and brussel sprouts – yuck!
Debbie Woodruff
Finally someone who agrees with me about kale chips. They’re kind of bitter too. 🙂 I do actually love fresh kale though.
Marsha
I don’t like to walk. I’m a runner through and through. I love to bike. I’m a cardio junkie. Now, I’m embracing walk breaks during my run, but you know the push for “leisure walking”, well I just can’t embrace it. I tried to give up my cardio fix and exchange it for lifting and leisure walking, but it just didn’t work. I do love to go on a walk with friends any time, but walking isn’t my main form of exercise. And I highly recommend walking to those who want to get active, but I’ve just had to confess that for me, that’s not my main thing.
Debbie Woodruff
Actually, the reason I started running way back when was because I hated walking. I mean walking for cardio…it’s hard!!! Plus you accomplish twice as much in half the time when you run.
Marsha
Exactly. In fact, I started out racewalking but I would run for training and finally I just decided I liked the running best 🙂
Becca
As a vegan fitness blogger myself, I can totally relate to number 3! I burst out laughing when I read that. I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂
Debbie Woodruff
That’s why confession is good. You find out there are others out there just like you. 🙂
Megan @ Meg Go Run
I will say I do like kale chips but I never, ever make them. I think your confessions are totally normal! To me, part of eating healthy is allowing yourself to eat junk from time to time. I confess tonight my hubby and I are eating a FROZEN PIZZA for dinner! We have tons of healthy food here since we just went grocery shopping, but we’re both craving pizza! Prob the worst thing about it is all the sodium.
Debbie Woodruff
I love to take a frozen cheeseless pizza and “jazz it up.” Lots of fresh veggies, maybe some vegan cheese…yum!
Farrah
haha, my blog started out as a food recipe success log of sorts as well too! 😛
I definitely don’t drink enough water and probably should be eating more vegetables. 😡
Debbie Woodruff
I have a hard time drinking enough water too. I feel like I’m always slightly dehydrated.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home
So I don’t even like kale. I can taste it in my smoothies, no matter what ingredients I try to blend in. Even moringa and Spirulina are too green…
Debbie Woodruff
I like kale okay in my salads. I always massage it with a little olive oil & a pinch of salt, which really helps. Steamed? Not so much. I’ve never put it in a smoothie but I’ll probably just stick with spinach.
Kimberly Hatting
High-5!! I detest green beans with a vengeance. Even if I add a lot of butter and/or garlic or salt & pepper…ugh, they still taste like green beans (which resembles what I think dirt would taste like). There, WHEW! And don’t get me started on bananas LOL
Debbie Woodruff
I’m glad I’m not the only one! My niece always brings her “special” green bean casserole to family events and I have to make myself eat a bit or two so as not to hurt her feelings. I’m so happy when she forgets to make it vegan. 🙂
