Saturday Shares

Just a few things to share for Saturday!

The SLO Marathon: The price goes up on February 28!

SLO Marathon

Now is the time to register for the SLO Marathon before the price goes up on February 28! Also, if you want your name on your bib, the deadline is March 2. Come run with me on April 23! Remember you can still use the code WOODAMB to save $10 on registration!

Take the Leap/Bringing Yoga Back Challenges

The 12 days of #BringingYogaBack with prAna is over (though the 30 day #TaketheLeap challenge continues through March 8). It was a lot of fun to try some challenging (to me) poses over the 12 days. Here are a few of my favorites:

TadasanaThis may be my favorite selfie of all time. Photo bombed by a cat!

Down Dog

Low Lunge

One Legged Dog

Wild Thing

CrowOkay, crow pose was not one of the #BringingYogaBack poses. I just get pretty proud of myself when I can hold it long enough to get a picture.

Save Money on

Do you want to practice yoga at home but need some guidance? I know from experience that has excellent instruction, choices of videos or audios, and a huge variety of yoga classes. I’ve been a member for several years and now I’m also an affiliate.

I talk about a lot because it is my favorite online yoga service.  Here is a Groupon to save $60 on an annual membership. It’s usually $90 and you can get it for $29! There is also a shorter term option. I bought one myself because my membership is up for renewal next week (perfect timing). Disclosure: This is not my regular affiliate link but I can earn an extra $12 back from Groupon if you use this link to purchase.

Saturday Shares. Favorites from the week:

Why I Run. No, this isn’t my post from a few days ago. Angela and I actually wrote a post and published on the same day. Similar, but different. Check it out.

11 Ways to Manage Stress and Feeling Overwhelmed. While my stress level is much lower than it was a few months ago, I was interested to see Christine’s suggestions for reducing stress.

Cross Training for Runners. If you’re a runner, you know you should cross train. Here are some great tips from Amanda.

15 Common Running Mistakes to Avoid. We’ve all made some (or all) of these, but it is still interesting (and informative) to know what we shouldn’t be doing.

Crawling to the Finish Line: Heroic or Stupid? I actually had a client tell me this story (so uninformed!). Amanda asks an interesting question.

Positioning Your Blog to Charge Higher Prices. Blog school just started last Monday, but even if you didn’t sign up Rita’s blog has so much great information.

Do the Things that make your Heart Race. Just the title of Lisa’s post makes me smile (and curious).

Vegetarian Pad Thai. Tina (along with Deborah) has been doing a Meatless Monday linkup for a few months. I haven’t posted many recipes lately, but I love checking in (especially when the recipe is vegan, as is this one).

Any fun plans for the weekend? Have you read (or written) any great posts this week to share?

Weekly Reader: Vegan Independence Day Inspiration

Google Reader is gone. Follow my blog with Bloglovin.

Have you ever read a great book, seen an inspiring movie, or heard a great joke, and thought, “I’ve got to share that!” Of course you have! Here are a few things from my Reader in the last week that inspired and motivated me, made me happy, sad, and angry, made my stomach growl, and made me laugh.

For my Weekly Reader post this week, I thought it would be a good time to spotlight some of the amazing vegan recipes that have popped up in my reader lately. If you’re looking for a healthy, cruelty free Independence Day celebration the following posts are a great place to start. Disclosure: I’ve thrown a few of my own recipes in the mix this week.

In addition to these great recipes, this cloud cover during my 7 mile run on Sunday felt pretty inspiring.

Choosing Raw, Seasonal Appetizer: Cucumber Rounds with Raw Herbed Dill Cashew Cheese. Something cool and crisp for a hot day, thanks to Gena. Also try Cashew and Squash Canapés for a raw vegan twist on deviled eggs.

Post Punk Kitchen, Garden Corn Chowder with Basil & Chives. I love corn chowder, and IsaChandra’s recipe sounds so good. Just reading the ingredient list (and looking at the picture) makes my mouth water.

Main Course

The Iron You, Grilled Ratatouille Muffuletta. Somehow I just found Mike and Margherita’s blog, even though they are fellow Fitfluential Ambassadors. They have an abundance of scrumptious sounding recipes (not all vegan). This one is though and sounds delicious!

Healthy. Happy. Life., 10 Veggie Burgers for Father’s Day. Never mind that this was a Father’s Day post. Nothing says 4th of July barbecue like a burger and here are 10 of Kathy’s best.

Tempeh Burgers. This is the recipe that made me love tempeh! Perfect for the grill (or indoors if you live in the 110+ weather of the desert like I do).

Where’s the Beach, Tasty Tuesday – Tequila Lime Tofu Salad.  I love roasted corn and veggies right off the grill.  Heather’s salad combines a spicy marinade, tofu, and the roasted veggies.

Side Dishes

Vegan Miam, Vegan Panko-Crusted Mac + Cheeze. I put this in the side dish section, but if you love mac and cheese like I do, you could make a full meal out of Rika’s recipe.

The Naked Kitchen, Refreshing Watermelon Salad. Hot weather is the perfect time for cool and refreshing food, and nothing is as cool and refreshing as watermelon. Kristy’s salad will be great alongside those burgers on the 4th!

Thug Kitchen, Who’s the Badass that Brought Pasta Salad? You Are. The perfect dish to bring to a 4th of July picnic, the folks at Thug Kitchen will make you giggle as you cook (as always…language alert).

Potato Salad. Here is my traditional version of a potato salad, using vegan mayonnaise. Another great potluck dish.

Southwest Salad with Black Beans, Avocado, and Quinoa. I actually posted this recipe on July 3 last year! It must be the perfect Independence Day side dish! I mean, I love bean salads, so adding avocado and quinoa can only make this even better.

Fragrant Vanilla Cake, Raw Red White and Blue Dream Cake. If you need to bring a perfect dessert for an Independence Day party, Amy’s beautiful Dream Cake is it.

Healthy. Happy. Life., 4th of July Vegan Flag Cake with Coconut Whip and Berries. Kathy’s veganized version of a classic flag cake sounds delicious and looks very patriotic.

Arena Fitness, Festive Summer Fruit Skewers. Looking for a totally healthy, delicious, and beautiful dessert for the 4th? Go no farther that Stacey’s fruit skewers. Oh, and it’s easy too.

And if you’re looking for a complete meal plan, Cadry’s Kitchen has Fireworks, Friends, & Flip Flops: Vegan Fare for the Fourth. From appetizers to salads, to main dishes, to cocktail, Cadry has you covered.

I hope that all of you have a happy, healthy, and safe 4th of July wherever you are celebrating. And for my Canadian friends, I’m a few days late but, Happy Canada Day!

I heading to Huntington Beach to visit family (and run a 5k with them!). What are you doing for the holiday?
