I am So Excited About…My Next Race! The Costume Party Run!

I have kind of teased you with this but I am finally happy to announce my next half marathon! I’ve been selected as an ambassador for the Costume Party Run! On July 7, I will be competing, in costume, in the Hilarious Half Marathon. Not up for 13.1? Then you can sign up for the Wacky 5k! Both races promise to be a fun, whacky, summertime experience, and I. Can’t Wait!

There are a few reasons that I am excited about the Costume Party Run. Back in the dark ages when I first started running half marathons, no one handed out finisher’s medals. You had to run 26.2 for that. Now they have become an expected part of the whole experience, and the Costume Party Run is giving away what may be the biggest, baddest finisher’s medal ever. It is a six-inch, 3D spinning disco ball, because, as they say, size matters.

Second, in cased you missed it, it is a Costume Party run. Meaning costume required! Well, required for an ambassador. In all my running years, the most daring thing that I’ve worn in a race is a running skirt, so I will be stepping way outside of my box to run in full costume. Obviously I have some planning to do.

Have you ever Googled “Running Costumes?” Go ahead, I’ll wait while you check them out.

I are really excited about planning a costume. I will be asking for your help. Seriously, I need help. I have a few ideas, but I really am open to suggestions. I’m not quite sure where to begin.  I do have a few things that I know that I don’t want.

  • I don’t want to be a princess, mouse, or fairy.
  • It will be July. Even in San Diego it will be warm, if not hot, so I don’t want a full body (or furry) costume.
  • I was telling my 82 year old client about the race and she suggested a French maid, but I don’t think I want to go there, either.

Other than that, I am open to your suggestions.

Here are some race details: The race will start and finish at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday, July 7 at 6:30 am.  The half marathon will head out and back on Friars Road, and the 5k will take place in the huge parking lot at Qualcomm.  There will be an expo and packet pick up at the Stadium on Saturday, July 5, and a lot of post race music, food and fun. You can sign up here.  You can keep up to date with race details on the Costume Party Run Facebook page.

The training starts soon, but the costume planning starts now! Suggestions please? Any So Cal or San Diego peeps want to dress up with me and do this run?

Disclosure: As a Costume Party Run Ambassador, I was provided with a free entry and a discount code for my readers. I was not compensated in any other way.

Hmmmm, you could be a crayon, and wear all one color, and draw stripes and “Crayola” on your outfit. Or go for 80s theme and wear neon colors, a sweatband, 80s hair, bright makeup?
Can’t wait to see what you choose!
